Mr Dimbleby was left helplessly crying “Okay, no hold on, no” and “Alright, madam” as the member of the audience persisted to challenge the leading Brexiteer.

She stated: “Mr Farage can I challenge that slightly and say when we voted to leave, did we know we were leaving the customs union and did we notice that we were actually going to vote for a Northern Ireland, northern southern Ireland border, that was never brought up at all.”

The outcry from the Remoaner came after Mr Farage was asked by Mr Dimbleby about the prospect of a second referendum.

He asked: “Nigel Farage you once flirted with the idea of a second referendum.”

The former Ukip leader replied: “No I didn’t, I feared it because there is a great Brexit betrayal going on, that Parliament may force a second referendum upon us, I pray they don’t, but I do fear.

“I think some of the people on this panel would like a second referendum…the point is I don’t want a second referendum but I fear it.”

Mr Farage also used the desperate cry to showcase the insults that have been hurled at Leave voters and pointed the finger at former prime minister John Major for patronising the public.

He continued: “And John Major, you know for John Major to say and they’re all doing it, ‘any of you here that voted Brexit you’re thick, you’re stupid, you didn’t understand what you’re doing’ and we’re sick to death of insults from people like John Major.
